I’m happy with my first-day swap meet scores. A couple of Dyna ignitions, a set of Andrews 11X cams, a KZ900 tank with no obvious bondo, a KZ900 speedo, etc all for very reasonable prices.

So far I haven't found too much that I can't live without. There was a 1981 GPz550 tank that looked promising... then saw it up close. Yikes - it was a total Monet (i.e. nice from far, far from nice). Even for $75 it was pretty bad.

Did pick up a baggie of old-school Craftsman metric sockets and a book:

There is no obvious copyright date in it but my best guess was that it was published somewhere around 1950-1955. One Google later and it looks like it was 1951.

Also got to spend some time chatting with slmjim+Z1 BEBE, which is always nice.

EDIT: with a crunch period Wednesday evening, I got the XT250 together enough to be rideable and strapped it to the back of the vehicle. Now I don't need to walk everywhere.

EDIT #2: the book was apparently for sale in Popular Mechanics in 1944. Guess I guessed wrong. :)

So yesterday was fun. :)

By 11am the clouds were starting to get pretty dark. Not long after that, a serious thunderstorm rolled in - the rain was almost horizontal. Six of us were standing under one of the canopies in the VJMC swap meet location. We had lowered it to try to reduce the amount of wind getting under it, so the roof/top supports were at shoulder height. We all held on to a portion of the frame; I was on the windward half, and there were times we really needed to lean into the wind to keep the canopy from taking off. (We were all aware that we were holding on to an aluminum frame during an impressive lightning show.)

The funny thing was that the temperature went from 80-something to 63 while the wind and rain continued: we were outside in late July and we were all soaked and cold.

A lot of vendors dismantled their stands before the storm hit and we saw some of them leaving for good. The rain had more or less stopped by about 2:00 but I think the damage had been done.

Even with the not-unusual-for-Mid-Ohio weather, I'm looking forward to next year. I met some nice people and had some good conversations about bikes, history, friends, etc. I also picked up more Craftsman sockets and wrenches from the same vendor along with some VJMC swag.

We sold more than we bought for a change this year.  Saw some old friends & scored a few screamin' deals on Z1 stuff.

Had a couple of fine visits with Nerdy.  He's a great conversationalist & a true gentleman.

The standard swap meet thunderstorm on Sat. afternoon has already been well covered by Nerdy.  The wind mostly destroyed our partner's shelter frame the next site over, along with many others.  Our swap site is on a higher point of the field the swap area is in and has a good view of much of the area.  We watched as many pop-up shelters took flight, folded, shed their tarps and otherwise succumbed to the wind gusts.

Looking forward to next year!

You're too kind but I appreciate it. At the risk of repeating myself, you're good people.

That's right, you would have had an excellent view of the... festivities. The canopy crew couldn't really see what was going on: the cloth/tarp portion was hitting us in the head. It was like being under a very large but suboptimal umbrella. OTOH it was a good team-building exercise.

It was my first time! at AMA days.  $50 to get in! I was there Friday! Great time was had by all as far as I could tell. It was madness from the time I pulled in. Bikes going in all directions! Had to be careful not to hit anyone/anything. I was able to to score an original rear fender/ round tail light with all the wiring and rear brake pedal for my 73 Z1 I am rebuilding. Total $250. I thought that was a great price!! Can't wait till next year! I spoke to a guy who had been many years in a row and said this year was the craziest he had seen in all the years he was there.
