What is a fair price for this? 1982 KZ1000 LTD

I'm looking for some opinions on the value of this bike.   I was just randomly talking to a co worker yesterday, he comes up with "Yeah, I have a KZ1000 too.....I'd like to sell it".  Wait, WHAT?   Haha.   I just got pictures from him.   It's a 1982 with about 20k miles on it.   He said it ran last a couple years ago.   What is something like this worth?

 Thanks in advance,

I'll go first with my opinion (probably worth nothing).  The 80s LTDs are not YET highly desirable collector bikes,  however they are fast and fun and have an engine (J Model) that is pretty much the pinnacle of evolution of the 903 Z1. From the photos it appears to be cosmetically in good shape, whether or not it is running condition after a "couple years" is questionable. A peek, sniff inside the gas tank will tell you a lot.

Without seeing it in person, In running condition my "expert" opinion is $2,500-$3,000, use needed repairs for negotiation.   The real question is what does the owner think it's worth?  Maybe you can come to an agreement!

I think krazee's number is a good one, assuming the bike runs, doesn't smoke and doesn't need tires or chain & sprockets.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Offer him a grand and go from there, its always a gamble buying a bike that's sat for any length of time....

Thanks to all for your replies.  I'm picking it up tomorrow or Saturday.   Guy wanted a grand for it,  and that's just too cheap for me to say no.

Obviously not sold, so price might be out of line. It appears you got a good deal.

That is a cracking buy, I stopped watching one here in the uk when it reached £900 (was a box of bits and the frame was rotted out) I eventually got this one for £1150 which also came with a box of bits

Picked her up last night.  Not as clean as the first photos looked (mainly just the crackled paint onnthe tank, but the inside of the tank looks good!).   I ended up getting it for $800.  I can't imagine this wasn't a great deal.
