I would be at about 6,000 feet too if that crawled out from under my motorcycle cover!  Next stop would be my BVD drawer.

Thanks for the ID.  Good to know it's as harmless as the bungie cord that it looks like.

That's a pretty sonofagun. I wish we had more fun snakes here. Just lots of Rattlers and Bull snakes. Them bull snakes aren't poisonous, but 8 feet long and MEAN. They'll chance you if you ride past them on a mountain bike.

Have lots of King Snakes here. Little ones make it into the house sometimes.  When the cats get one they get punished. Last Sidewinder I had was lurking next to a faucet. I told him to wait a minuet came back and put a quiet 22 round in it's head. Vipers are killed on sight.

Snakes , Sharks , and Alligators ....

Then if you were me, you probably would've had a heart attack at our house several years ago.
I opened the front door, took one step, then a snek lunged at me VERTICALLY from a gap between the house & sidewalk.
Scared the bejesus out of me.  Never saw a snake do something like that before.  The best I could figure out is that it was a Texas Rat snake.
Last summer, not really frightening, but had a 3-4-ft long garter snake slither across the deck.  Longest one of those I'd ever seen.
And years ago, when we were kids, we saw a solid red hognose snake.  kinda reddish/maroon. That was sumthin'.
I see that species pretty often, but never solid red.  The most common ones I see are usually colored similar to a copperhead.
