Will a 1977 KZ 400 front 18" rim directly bolt onto a 1977 KZ 650? If not what modifications have to be done to make it fit?

Egads! Why would you want to do that???? It will degrade the handling of an otherwise excellent handling bike. Ed

It will, might have to change wheel bearings. I don’t know OD of 650 axle? I’m putting a 78 kz400 wheel on a 900 right now. I’m taking Lester mags off and putting spike rims on it for a dragstrip beater.

I am going to recant this post.
I looked thru my spare parts today and it started coming back to me, been a few years.
They will swap over but there is a difference.
The axle is the same diameter for the KZ400,650 and 1000 spoked wheels with the 4 bolt brake rotors.
Spacers are different.

People are on to my ways now! I have picked up 3 - 1978 KZ400 front wheels over the past 10 years. And sold on eBay for drag bikes. For use with the 18" front drag slick. 1978 KZ400 has dual disc mount holes for disc's. 1977 and earlier have only 1 side for disc. I am putting this rim on my 76-77 900. Using a 90x90x18 tire. I am switching the Lestars out for spokes. I am also using the drilled disc's, after I take them apart and
surface grind down to 5mm thick like the Z1R's and LTD's. I might have paid too much for red bike. Right before the world changed. So now I am going to make the best out of the parts and 2 engines it came with. This bike is for drag strip. Not street use, until someone buys it. I purchased it for an investment into the near future. If I do it right, I can keep the 1200cc, web cam, with shim under, built crank, whatever else is in it for $3,800 bill. FBG built and dynoed 124 HP engine has these 38 Lectrons on it now. Sorry for the tangent. But I love spokes. I made a mistake 15 yrs. ago building the other one I have had sitting. It is stock 19" with Buchanon SS spokes. I wish I did 18" back then. I might have to change it up. anyhow!
But I don't know if your 650 has mags or spokes. I new the rims interchanged. These are pics form 2 days ago.
