Hey y'all,

My OG throttle cables (54012-141, 54012-140) are kinked and sticking, so I figured I'd replace them with two new ones from Z1 Enterprises: 03-0001. On their site it states that the 03-0001s are equivalent to the 54012s, but the Z1 parts are clearly 1/2" longer. The 54012s are 43.5" from end to end on the outside, while the 03-0001s are 44" end to end on the outside. Any thoughts on this? My bars are stock, so I don't think that should be an issue. Thanks!

I've owned my 1977 KZ650-C1 since it was new, and I only use genuine Kawasaki cables on it. Properly lubed and installed they should last pretty much forever with zero problems. The only reason I replaced mine (once in more than 42 years) was for aesthetic reasons since finish on the top connectors was looking rather old. You already know the correct part numbers, so why not just buy the real deal? You should be able to find them easily on eBay. BTW, if yours were kinked they definitely were not installed correctly, throttle cable should operate very smoothly. Ed

I just had to replace my throttle cable on the '82 GPz. It was sticking and not letting the idle remain stable. I found an NOS OEM cable on eBay for $15.
I made sure to follow Ed's advice and lube the new one well before install. And, on a positive note I was able to get the new cable in without taking the carbs out. Works great now.
