No question...

Aromas of fresh cut wood, and the feel of an uneven floor are two fond memories from days of yore. :)

I remember years ago when all I had in the Chicago area was an unheated garage for my work area. Had to drag my bikes down into the basement before it got real cold. Just had a few of my iron worker buddies come over and for a few beers got my bikes moved into the basement!!!! It was 15 steps from the top to the bottom of the stair case into my basement!!!

Built many a motor on my kitchen table back then. Sprayed tons of motor parts with GunKote in my basement and had to open up EVERY window in the house to get rid of the smell of GunKote. Then baked all of those parts in the family oven. Anything I cooked for the next few weeks in that oven tasted of GunKote!!!!

Its real nice to have a work area for my bikes again. Too bad at this time, I am no longer capable of riding my bikes the way I used to due to worsening health problems.

Just cleaned out my garage, got rid of some old fuel tanks and a CB125 motor that's been following me around for the past 10 years as well.
We'll see how long it stays this organized.

Smells faintly of gasoline and simple green

For all the old timers out there. You will remember this can of Castrol R. If you road raced a two stroke, this was the only oil to use. Even your old timers with their BSA's and Ducati's ran Castrol R in their bikes. NOTHING smells better than Castrol R!!! The sound and the aroma of a Tz750 running on Castrol R and UnoCal race gas warming up in the cool morning air is one of the lasting memories of my racing days!!!

Last night I heated up some R30 in a frying pan till it starting making some smoke. It filled the whole garage with that sweet odor of bean oil!!!! It brought many memories of the past for me!!! Only thing missing was the ping a ping ping of a Tz!!!!!

This stuff "NITRO 9" was what the Paul Gast, "FBG" Gang who raced the H2 750 dragbikes way back used in these drag bikes. Had a distinct smell when running.
Bad stuff nowadays! Member of the "zene" & "ene" category of carcinogen category. You poor people "Prop. 65" in California would go to jail for pocessing it today!

You're a sick man Dr Gamma! I love it!

Right now my shop smells like carb cleaner. I've started cleaning the first of three bikes in prep for next year. This one is my KZ1000.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

The worst odor you can have in your workshop are carbs with one or two year old pump gas in them!!!!! You just can't get rid of that smell. You got to throw out the shop rags that came in contact with that greenish $hit. Even have to use carb cleaner to spray out your drain pans. That is what I always liked about formica top work benches, you can just spray them off with carb cleaner., and that foul smell is gone!!! That smell doesn't sink into the bench like wood does. Then make sure you take the paper towels that you wiped the bench down with to the OUTSIDE garbage can!!

I am getting a headache just thinking about that foul smell of what used to be pump gas!!!!

I'd have to disagree with you Dr. Gamma, the worst smell is burnt, old gear lube.

Don't think I have ever smelled burnt gear oil.

The aroma of hot gear oil reminds me of walking through a Winston Cup garage area back in the day!!!!

For some reason I like the smell of a motor being opened up for the first time in 40 years, I don't know why because it isn't a nice smell, I just do :side:

Oh Dr. Gamma, you is soooo mean. I was having this lovely stroll down memory lane, remembering a Super Rat makin that lovely bean smell, then you had to ruin my fantasy by bringing up the smell of rancid E10! Ugh !!

I, too, am a fan of Formica-topped work benches.
