We had those in the U.S. They were called Ninja 250's here. I owned a black/red one for a short while. It was the best handling bike I ever rode, but it was slow as shit.
After the 1990's they seemed to all but disappear completely.

My wife learned on one. I think it was a 2003. It is a great way to learn about momentum through the twisties. Not terribly fast, but that 13,000 rpm redline was sure a hoot. Kawasaki has improved the new ones a bit. Now 300cc and I believe they are fuel injected. Yes, I think I rode it more than she did.
