Where I live is a dry climate (desert). The plywood will last a long time. I double it up for a thicker floor and for screwing the staggered pieces together. In your case I suspect the gravel is to allow someplace for the moisture to go. If that's the case I'd use copper sulfate to treat one side to stop dry rot. I had a gallon around here for fence posts but I left it on another job so I can't use it anymore. It's a good thing to have around. It is also used to keep roots from getting into drain pipes. It can be bought as a root killer for waste pipes. When I repair one I pour some in the hole then fill it with water. Once the water is gone I bury it. It's nasty stuff so don't get any on ya.
