I recently took a tour of the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley, CA. The last part of the tour features the modes of Transportation (Air Force 1, Marine 1, limos, ect...)he used as the President. I came across a familiar sight.

Cool. I wonder if they are typical police bikes or if they had anything special done to them for presidential duty?

They're standard CHP bikes. I was assigned to Reagan''s Communications team during that time. Secret Service coordinates with the local Law enforcement agencies for clearing and escort of the Motorcade route. The Motor Officers would block cross streets and leap frog each other along the route. The motorcade doesn't waste time, We typically ran 70 - 80 mph. The escort bikes would blow by to the next intersection at well over 100mph. I do remember two bikes ran into each other in LA. The motorcade didn't stop or slow down. The Secret Service has to be focused on the safety of only one person. Fortunately neither Officer had major injuries.
