Bought a Euro Spectre 1100, tell me what I have. was created by MadShad
So I picked up a Spectre 1100 on craigslist a few days ago, I'm trying to determine what year it is and what the differences are between this model and the US model.
the bike has an Indiana title with the correct vin but the model is listed as a KZ1000-A.
The year on the title is listed as 1984, the info I've read says 1983 was the last year for the spectre 1100
The Vin on the neck of the bike reads KZT10D-xxxxxx, there is no model year sticker on the neck.
It's got a light switch on the right hand switchgear that can shut off the head and tail lights, also has a small running light inside the headlight. Ignition key controlled center and kick stand locks.
The head has NO SMOG PORTS! and the carbs have adjustable needles.
The bike is Kinda beat up and it looks like it spent some time outside, however I've got it running now and the engine purrs right along.
I'm wondering how I can tell what year this actually is?
Any difference in the motor internals vs. a US bike?
any collectability?

It is a 1983 year-model...but there is a typo on the US title...should be a KZ1100 instead of KZ1000. As for what Euro country it was originally sold in, I'll check some of the literature as soon as I return home (I'm 350 miles away until next week).

Sorry for the delay...but I forgot to respond in a timely manner. Based on the frame VIN, your motorcycle was originally exported and sold in Europe (Kawasaki unfortunately didn't break down the export areas within Europe in the literature I have). Can't be more specific than that...however, I do know that in the UK, models are registered by the year they are sold, rather than the year they were manufactured (like in the US and Canada)...this may account for the 1984 original registration you mentioned.
As for collectibility, I suspect that this is not especially collectible...unless you really want a D model. You might check the Kawasaki FSM that includes the 1983 D2 model (mine only includes the D1 model) and if there are any differences between countries...they will be listed in that FSM...and you might be able to narrow down where your motorcycle was originally sold.
