Fork tubes or front end swap was created by seanL4
Hi there, need some options for my z500 project the fork tubes are badly pitted and need to be replaced. Does anyone know if any of the other kz tubes are compatible and if so which ones.
The other option is to swap the front end, options and advice please
thanks

SeanL4,
If you are talking about he upper(inner, male) tubes, they usually can be rechromed . There is a company selling brand new ones for the larger KZs that may also offer them for the 500. I don't have the link handy, but you should be able to search for it on this site or do a web search for the company. If you would rather swap the whole front end, then you have many choices. Getting a different setup with similar overall length (forks plus wheel) will reduce complications, but there is no purely bolt on swap that I am aware of.
If you want to look for other KZ models with the same tubes, you can compare part numbers on Partzilla or Kawasaki.com.

Pretty much any 36mm 400/500/550 twin shock -except zr zepyhr and ltd could work.
nos fork tubes do crop upon ebay from time to time. The 650/700/750 and some 1000 also used 36mm tubes. The 400/500/550 has a slightly unusual leading axle, the others have a conventional axle position.
swapping a complete front end: yokes, forks, wheel. discs and calipers is another way to do it.
where are you?
