So I ended up ordering the Avon Roadriders, I'll post an update with initial impressions and then another with the mileage I get out of them. Hopefully that last post won't be for at least a year. I just got back from a weekend in the North Georgia mountains with my grandfather and yesterday we hit the tail of the dragon. Fortunately whata left of my Dunlop 404s held up but I'm definitely looking forward to getting the Avons on.

Roadriders worked well on the Dragon for me last year and just about every other road around the Smokies too

What's the big deal about this "Dragon" some of you talk about?

If you like curvy roads, it is one of the great Motorcycling roads in the USA, Located on the border of Tennessee / North Carolina and Georgia. There is a section that measures 11 miles in length, and has 318 turns. Beautiful forest area, with rivers and lakes beside. Many other great roads are nearby. Near the Great Smokey Mountain National Forest and park. Numerous motorcycles are normally present. Definitely a "bucket list" item.

A road I would definitely recommend for any biker that enjoys cornering and a little thrill and scenery. I would also highly recommend the roads on Blood Mountain in North Georgia just a couple hours away from the Tail. Shorter sections but comparable to the curves on the Dragon. I've got a video from a section I'll see about uploading and linking.

So many great roads around there, not huge elevations, (6000 max) like the Rockies but a hell of a lot of fun.
We put just under 1300 miles on during the week and didn't ride many of the same roads twice.
I hear the weekends are very busy and I'm glad we didn't have to ride then.
The most fun I had was riding the roads that started out in the valleys and climbed up and over the Blue Ridge Parkway , there are a bunch of those.
