Difference between 1980 kz750 & 1981 LTD 750 was created by Stormtrooper
Hey all, I'm new to riding and the site but I am happy to announce that I am the proud new owner of an 81 LTD. I picked up this sweet 750 for $300 and it looks about as well as you'd expect but only needs a couple of things. I just so happened to find a 1980 kz750 on my local Craig's list that is complete but disassembled and the owner is asking $400, all the parts seem to be in ok condition but I am unsure if everything will fit, both are 4cyclinder 750's. Is it worth buying as a part bike? I know my exhaust needs to replaced, and I'm pretty sure it looks the same as mine. Are they compatible models?

Which model 1980 KZ750? The LTD (H), or STD (E)? In either case the engine/carbs are basically the same. The cosmetics are different obviously, and these cosmetic parts won't interchange.

The would be parts bike is definitely not an LTD so it must be an STD, do you think exhaust and wheels would interchangeable? Would you consider the gas tank cosmetic?

Humm, the exhaust would fit the head no issue, the only question is the position of the rear hanger for the footpegs. I'm pretty sure you could make it work if it isn't a direct bolt on.
Wheels will fit. The E model rear wheel is 18" and the H (LTD) is a 16". The 18" is a nice upgrade in my opinion.
Tank? Not sure. Maybe. Hopefully someone more experienced than me will chime in.

The 750E mufflers will fit the Ltd. you have to use the E muffler brackets. I put a set on my 81 650-csr which has the same frame as the Ltd, so the fit is the same.
1981 KZ650-CSR w 750E mufflers.
