So I'm kicking around the idea of buying an '82 Gpz1100, It's been started and ran last year but has been sitting for several years before that.
I'm wanting to know how the FI systems were in these bikes. Is it rebuildable? parts availability? did it even work correctly when new?
Any advice is welcome as I don't even know the components of that system vs carbs.
Thanks!

I bought 86 fuel injected GoldWing and used hammer to "wake up" fuel pump, that was it!
If fuel injection has a problem, you'll need knowledge of car fuel injection system repair:
codes, sensor testing, electrical diagnosing etc.
Injectors can be clogged, you'll have to run carb cleaner thru them.
I would buy it if price is right, but I am a car mechanic.

There are some old threads about that system on this site. You may have to search the archived discussions.
It is a pretty decent system for the time, but many of the parts are NLA. I have read about a couple of folks having some success by adapting newer parts and salvaging NOS and useable used parts to get it working again. You may also want to keep in mind that it is not veray adaptable and does not respond well to intake, engine and exhaust modifications. Many people in the 1980s and perhaps most today, convert to carburetors.

I bought one new and the fuel injection always worked great on mine. If it's goofed up in any way though, you are in for a real experience trying to repair it.

Thanks guys, I've dug through some old posts here and found similar info. Looks like I'd want to get it pretty cheap. It looks like a carb swap would require moving the petcock and isn't as easy as slapping them on and figuring out jetting, etc.
Probably more than I want to get into right now, might be a good winter project.

The one advantage to those older systems is the ignition and fuel injection systems are two different systems and are not dependent of each other. What that means is you can simply remove the FI stuff and swap in a set Mikuni BS34 carbs if the FI system is FUBAR.
