Other than the theoretical resale values, I 'd much rather have my KZ1000A2 for about $17k less.

GregZ and I were talking recently, in my opinion ( Maybe his too?)
the market has definitely "Gone Soft", maybe its short term but I almost spilled my coffee I was laughing so hard at the $19K,
even '73's aren't bringing that right now! Oh sure anyone can post a ridiculous asking price on ebay, certainly doesn't mean they are going to get it!!!
Of course there's also the old saying as long as someone is willing to pay it?? Right??
Thing is I know a LOT of collectors around here,Japanese,British,American etc. and to a person they ALL say the same thing, the market for resale is the worst they have seen it in a decade!!
Will it recover ...IMO....sure! WHEN?? who knows? but asking price and getting price are 2 differnt things! Good luck selling that $19 '76 for real.
again, that is just my opinion, but a lot of AMENS around here!

They are probably curious to see what it REALLY brings!
I do that myself sometimes just to see what happens. watching isnt bidding. ( Most of the time)
A lot of the times people pull then relist at a lesser price or do some behind the scenes sale for much less etc.
Just My Opinion

I often hit "watch" on eBay when I see things at a crazy price, just to see if anyone is daft enough to buy it, it's like a traffic accident, you just have to look.

I'm sure I'm not the only weirdo who does that, so the number of watchers could be directly proportional to how outrageous the asking price is.

This is in response to Swest's swing-arm question. It rides smooth, not bouncy, corners well. The lowering pieces are aftermarket the original owner installed. he had short legs. He also spent a lot of time in the hospital and laid up at home. Thus only 17,000 miles on the speedo....(he was a rodeo Bull rider.)

It's when listings such as this appear that I look at my bike the way I do. I've never in person seen another one like it. When I'm out riding, and other people get to see an older bike, that expression, that look is what it's about. If the bike means a lot to you, I would expect nothing less than what it would take to part with it. Too many times you hear of the story about I should have kept it, or I should have not sold it.. Sellers remorse. Even if it doesn't sell, it's already paid off. At that same auction site, you have high dollar listings similar style bikes not even in running condition, bikes with no history, barnyard finds. In no immediate time soon would I even consider something like this. But if i were to come upon a treasure chest with more than I knew what to do with, too be honest I think I would skip the gravy and go straight to the main course. Show up to the sellers place with cash in hand and steal it.

The whole market is soft again, like '08 all over, I switched back to car parts, already grabbed a big block chevy and 4 speed. and just grabbed a low miles 5.9 dodge motor, all the knick knacks, tranny, wire harness etc for a single dead president for each buy.

my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
Past; 78 kz1000, 83 kz550

Good deal, considering Franklin wasn't a president......

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

"The odometer has been rebuilt to reflect the resurrection."

IMO, this was a very stupid decision for the owner to do. Technically the bike is TMU (true mileage unknown) which brings down the value. I had a set of gauges restored and had the original mileage put back in.
