Well, just a couple months left to ride out the Winter here. Been mild so far. Low thirties today, and hardly any snow on the ground.

Bossie sounds happy. Gotta be all that clean-crisp air. :)

He got butthurt I beat him off the line and made it to the entrance before he did. I took off my helmet and connected the strapps in case he wanted to get froggy. He didn't and I was glad. It's legal to split traffic in this state and what he did would be considered road rage. It could have been worse and that's what I have the cam for. Just in case. I happens a lot.

OK. So why is it legal to split lanes and what is the point of doing so ?

Ease of moving through traffic and less chance of overheating the engine. It's been accepted over 40 years and now it's the law. B)

Sounds reasonable. So then, what would the safety factor be for the splitter ? Would it put them more at risk ?

There are guidelines. Before there were some that would block your path even open their doors to keep you behind them. Some people like to get in front of you and slow down or even stop. It's always been illegal to do this but now it's a crime. I've noticed some moving over to let me pas The ones moving over to block will get a ticket.
