We are in the UK to start 2025 with another breathtaking build from Rob (Zed1015) approx 6 years in the making this “slow burn” project has run alongside other builds (watch out for the Moriwaki turbo in the future) I would strongly recommend checking out the build thread on the Z1OC site at the link below, the depth of engineering and ingenious problem solving is truly inspirational. I love the details like the “modified” lower tree being used as a “top” tree because the original wasn’t aesthetically pleasing to Rob and also the “no vinyl” paint job (those decals aren’t “decals”)Couldn’t resist including the pic of the storage solution when you “just have too many feature builds” for the available space !!!

Built around a collection of parts this Z1000A based AMA tribute is definitely “top drawer” when it comes to modified early Z’s 😊

When Wookie posted zed's bike I clicked on the link to the z1ownersclub thread and got lost in the details. Completely forgot to come back and post here. Amazing work and some really nice fabrication. I tip my hat to you, sir.
Zed: if you read this, what was the reason for using the electrex rotor?

Zed: if you read this, what was the reason for using the electrex rotor?
The reason is for the reduced centrifugal mass of the smaller rotor which gains a few HP and increases throttle response which is essentially the same effect as lightening the crank.
Other than that the smaller case allows more ground clearance and most importantly it looks trick  ..

That makes sense - talking about the optics of course, all that performance stuff is nowhere near as important as looks ;)

When I resurrected BOTM the criteria was simple. This was a feature about our members, their bikes and their stories. Not just for “trailer queens” and “high end” builds but also about the passion and the stories our members want to share. This month we have Kelly’s “concours” but more importantly a story of “one mans battle” his determination not to be beaten and how the passion we share has given him a “new lease of life”. Many would have been destroyed by such a diagnosis but instead Kelly has built an enviable stable of rides which he uses and enjoys.

Kelly’s story Back in 2015 I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. Shortly after that my uncle called and said I could have his 84' Honda VF 700S Sabre and I joined  v4musclebike.com  for help resurrecting the bike after a 6 year sleep outside.
On that site I met some great people and one in particular. He was a federal agent and with the help of the site owner set up a fundraiser for me that everyone else on the planet could see but me.
In May of 17' we went on a 4 day website meeting in Eugene Oregon. At the big dinner they totally surprised me with a $2200 check for me to do something fun for myself.
I'd just helped my new buddy find a nice FJR before the trip. He asked me what I was going to do with the money. I told him that I was getting a long distance sport touring bike. We've been riding long distance every year since.I bought a 94' ZG 1000 GTR/Concours. It had a bad #4 exhaust lobe but I knew about “Shouldabeen” Eng torque cams for the bike.
I bought the last set he made and they transformed the bike. Peak power hits at 8k rpm. I shift at that point and my buddy's FJR can't catch me until 85mph to 90mph.
I also added a fork brace and Progressive springs. In the rear I swapped in a ZZR 1200 shock. Now I can just about drag the saddlebags in a good corner.I've ridden from Seattle area to Deadwood South Dakota in two days and rode for 9 more days straight. We covered 4k miles and I could have kept going. The first generation GTR/Concours can do everything a Goldwing can do but is way more fun. The last Goldwing that tried to keep up fell behind in a shower of sparks.
