Anyone know anything about a honda 1983 Cx 650

My son inlaw is buying one Sat. Are they any good? Getting it for 200.

Cant complain about price. They are basic, reliable , not fast, not a sporty bike but they are comfortable and will get you there without a problem. Looks in good shape.

Back when the CX500 and CX650 were new, they both had multitudes of reliability problems, but it seems many of them were just the opposite lasting forever with no problems. I guess they fell into the "BMW" catagory, Luck of the draw on whether it built on a good day, or a lemon day.

Not that great a shape. Hit the CL link. Has a vid of it cruisein, seems ok. Tach cable is off. No biggy. Needs carb boots too Oh and a front tire.

My old CX 500 sports must have been made during the week - not one problem ever. Long time ago but probably did 60,000 km on it. The pulsing is a very strange sensation - didnt like it but you get used to it. Top speed - 175 km/h roaring down a real steep hill - it was a heavy 500 after all. Big seat was good.Easy maintainance. Bit like your Virago riders - they get a following.Nothings perfect !

I remember in the UK the 500s were called 'Slugs' because they were so ugly but they were reliable as hell.They were very popular with dispatch riders in London as they had bulletproof engines. Now they are becoming classics and very sought after.As for the 650, I know in the 80s,everyone had a go at turbos. Honda had the CX650,Kawasaki had the GPZ750,Suzuki had an 850 something and Yamaha also had something.I cant remember what at the minute ,(Ive had a few beers).But they all had a go at turbos.The GPZ was the sexy one but the Honda,being a Honda was the most reliable.It maybe sacrilege on this site but you cant go wrong with a Honda for quality build and reliability.

Knew someone that had a CX 650 Turbo - reliable as hell but also heavy as hell and very different to what you looking at moneypit.
Bastard used to make me hit the brakes when he was approachiing on the road - looked like a cop bike in the white.

We got the bike yesterday. Runs good, needs a few things like carb boots, fork oil seal (top one?). A few other bits and pieces need some playing with. But for the money invested he could part it out and make a profit. The guy he bought it from only had it 2 months. He was only 5'4" so he was too small for that bike. Took a 600 dollar loss on it. :0 So we shall see how it goes this spring.
