Ok so you see this is my kz1000 1981.

I only plastidipped it and made a bit of adjustment.

Questions:
My seat seems odd ....do you think its the original?
2.The PO changed the odo and tach gauges. My tach starts at 6000 rpm but moves up as I rev my bike.My bike revs normaly its the reading thats false. The new tach is not connected by a tach cable to the engine front.Which causes a leak when it spins as there is no cable anymore.Any plug I could put there....homemade or sumthing?.THanks!

That seat has been recovered. The original would have been ribbed. Ed

Z1Enterprises.com has a tach cable pinion seal & o-ring kit to repair the leak.

Is it a digital tachometer? I'd guess the tach gets it's input from the ignition system... just a guess.
I would try to find a user manual for it --- brand?

Not sure what's meant by it "starts at 6,000 rpm"?
It goes up to 6,000 rpm when the bike is started, but increases above that when revved ???

As soon as I start it it goes to 5000...then revs up as normal when engine goes up.

On that photo I just switched the key to ON.The bike isnt event running.

Is it switched to the "voltage mode" instead of the "tach mode"?

How do you know that....theres no switch or whatsoever..but I think it is as it goes from 5k to 60 with engine turned on..And it moves around 6k depending on the engine rev

Maybe a 1981 with a 1980 engine?

Could compare serial and frame numbers at www.zedder.com .
At the Zedder site, go to Bike Info.

Kawasaki models originally equipped with the tachometer at hand would be expected to have a means whereby the rider may switch back and forth between the function of rpm and the function of voltmeter.
