Sunday is a bad day to get a flat tire. was created by KZJOE900
Got a flat tire about 4 miles from home today. Found a screw dead center on the rear tire . Ride start well, then the bike seamed like it was going to die. I limped into the gas station and gave it gas and jiggled spark plug wires and it fired up fine. On he way back home, somebody at the light honked their horn and pointed to my tire. Happened that fast, within seconds of getting the puncture. Against my better judgement, I tried some Green Slime flat fixer. Figured I could limp home the 3 miles home at about 5 mph on back roads. Make long story short, had to have a towing company come and get it. Cost $84.00 bones. So $84.00 for tow, $120.00 for a mounted new tire. Two hundred for a flat tire. Well, that is the glass half empty. I feel fortunate that it didn't happen at speed.

Did you try riding on the flat? I've had a few flats on KZs and found despite having a flat tire, I could still ride 40mph for a few miles. I've ridden this way many a time over the years with no ill effects. Not a recommended action except if necessary. Actually riding at 40mph is easier than trying to ride at 10mph with a flat. I've been 6 miles from home at 2am with a flat and made it home easily.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

dam that sucks. the slime or fix a flat never really works in my opinion so i never recommend it. then once u get the tire off u have to clean the rim really well before u put the new tire on. ands slime is a b!@#$ to clean out

Hmm, I would have tried if I had known. How about going around corners going at that speed with a flat? I suppose the rim locks would keep the tire from turning off the rim, but I would be concerned that it would damage the rim. Mine was completely flat and felt awful. I wonder if the extra weight on a 900 would be factor. Maybe doable with a 650 but not a 900.

You're right about the heavier the bike, the worse it is trying to ride on a flat but I've done it on the KZ1000 as well as the KZ650, but on the 1000 was only once that I remember and it was only a mile or two. The tire pretty much protects the wheel from damage even when flat except of course large pot holes or curbs could possibly be another story. A flat is always a big pain in the ass, that is for sure but surprisingly for those that may have never had a flat rear tire while riding, a flat rear even if you are going 75mph normally is not a big deal and under certain conditions it can actually go unnoticed if going in a straight line down the road. That's why they are putting tire pressure sensors on most new cars and even the Honda GL1800 motorcycle has this feature.

My rear tire went flat on the freeway one time --- the bike started swaying back n forth from side to side. 60mph, heavy morning rush hour traffic --- needless, to say, I exited the nearest ramp.
