Order parts specifically for your KZ700-A1. Parts from other models may or may not work, but why take the risk? If you look up the KZ700-A1 part number for the part you need and order that specific part number the part should fit regardless of whether it was used on other models or not.
Use Kawasaki.com to look up the part numbers. That site has the parts diagrams for the 1984 KZ700-A1. Here's how you use the site. If you have any problems be sure to ask.
Go to Kawasaki.com. On left side put cursor over "Owner Information" then on drop down menu click on "Parts Diagrams." The click "Continue" next to "Motorcycles" and click on model/year/etc. on drop down. Once you get the list of parts for your bike you can click on the category of parts - such as "Air Cleaner" and you will see a diagram of all the parts for that category. Then when you click on an actual part number on the list under the diagram it will say if the Item Status is "Active." If it is "Active" Kawasaki still sells the part through dealers. Also, at that little page you can click on the yellow highlighted question mark for a cross reference of which bikes share that part or click on the red highlighted S to see earlier part numbers for the same part.
If you want to change bike models you can enter the new model at the top. You also can put in a part number up top and switch the word "MODEL" to "PART NUMBER" using the little drop down in that box. If you do that it will show all the models that part is used on.

I have looked around on the Kawasaki site but for non original parts many sites does not list the 700. I was looking for new rear shocks for example and the sites didn't list the 700.

I gave you all the info you need.
Please, read my previous post. I went back and highlighted in RED how to see which other models use the same part number as your bike, but you must FIRST look up the part number that is needed for YOUR bike so you can see which other models share than part.
Pardon me for sounding frustrated, but when folks go through the trouble to reply to questions it seems the person asking the question could at least read the reply all the way through.

pete greek1 wrote: Troll, as far as the forks go, you should change the fork oil with fresh fork oil & see if that takes care of the problem, a lot cheaper than replacing the springs, your bike looks to be in great shape, but I'll bet the P.O. never changed it, & it should be changed every 2-3 years, & as far as the rear shocks, did you adjust them to be stiffer when you have a passenger, you may not need to change them either !!
Pete
Absolutely right!!! You can put in new springs if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, but to do so without FIRST flushing the old fork oil and refilling to the CORRECT level with fresh fork oil of the correct weight is IMHO a big mistake. Clean fork oil of the correct weight and filled to the correct level is absolutely essential for the forks to operate properly. You may be pleasantly surprised at how well the forks work when properly maintained. Your best bet is to assume the previous owner did zero maintenance on anything, especially when it comes to forks. Some folks act like fork oil never needs to be changed, but it really does. Don't be too surprised if the stuff comes out looking like black mud.
The rear shocks may need to be adjusted or they may be worn out. I would try adjusting them first. If you find they still do not perform well there are a number of companies that make excellent replacements. Ed
