I recently aquired a 1976 kz900...my question is this...the vin starts out with Z1.....so does that make it a Z1..or is it just a Kz900..
was 75 the last year?...Or am I a complete spaz :woohoo:

Its a KZ900 and yes 1975 was the last year for the Z1

gOOD..iF THAT WAS THE CASE I WAS GONNA BRING IT BACK TO STOCK...But now i feel better about doing the suspension upgrades...wouldn't want to kill a Z1..

There are plenty of folks out there that prefer the KZ900 to the Z1...better running, better designed, etc. If a KZ900 fell into my lap...I'd be inclined to restore it...but that is just me.

here she is..it's been professionally bored to 1000cc specs with weisco pistons..lots and lots of parts included...it has a lot of potential...I'm still on the fence about doing he suspension upgrade, unsure if i can actually do it..
I think i like the idea of owning an nice upgraded stree fighter vs. actuallly building it..lol

1980 LTD 1000..,1976 LTD 900, have the 1000&900 now. the rest are previous= 1978 KZ 650 B.., 1980 Yamaha XT 500..,1978 Yamaha DT 400.., 1977 Yamaha yz 80..,Honda trail ct 70.., Honda QA 50...5-1/2 hp brigs & straton CAT chopper mini bike...3-1/2 hp mini bike (WHEN GAS WAS ABOUT 45 CENTS A GALLON)!!!!

Kz900 still has the lighter Z1 crank, thicker gauge frame tubing beefier swing-arm etc. your only differences really are the gauges sidecover and airbox, some racetech fork upgrades, and a new set of shocks and it will be 10x better than stock IMHO
