Stretching a KZ1000E1 (shaftie) was created by Serpent7
I have a few more pieces to powder coat on my 79 KZ1000. My left, and right engine covers are going out next. Then my (I call them triangles) foot peg, triangle and exhaust connectors. and finally my front and rear wheels, and calipers. After that I will start to stretch my driveshaft 6 inches. Going to get in contact with a driveshaft place for the mod. Any suggestions on what/where?

I guess I'm on my own… Starting the project November - December 2014. I'll report back here with any information I come up with, or find. I'll be visiting a drive shaft shop very soon.

I will respond but have ZERO experience stretching a bike with a shaft drive. My question to you is, Why? What is the benefit or purpose of this modification? I hope your shop is able to help.

Forrest, thanks for asking! A lot of (most) the modifications I do to my KZ are for "looks" I am very happy with the factory performance of my KZ. I have a vision in my mind of how i'd like my KZ to look. I will try to keep my KZ functioning as close to factory as possible, but its not my goal. How my bike looks is more important than how my bike rides at this point.

… and again, Thanks for asking!

I understand that you're going for a certain look and are willing to do it despite the negative impact to performance, but be sure that you do recognize that adding 6 inches to the swing arm is going to impact the bikes ability to negotiate turns. I mention this so after the mod is complete you don't go into turns with the same vigor as you did before the mod. We don't want to lose any KZR members. ;) Ed

Got it! I don't ride fast at all. Always under the speed limited, and very limited motorcycle riding. I will be careful, but I wanna create something beautiful, comfortable, date correct, and unique.

serpent,
if i was going to be the one performing this mod,
my first preference would be to take the swingarm and remove both of the side tubes.
by cutting them at the original welds on front and back and replace them with the proper size and length of tube for the stretch.
re-using the front and rear part of the arm and whatever brackets .
i don't like to just cut swingarms and add some length in the middle.
no two ways around it looks like a cobbled up job  .

after i had the swingarm done.i would examine the shaft(which i personally have never seen before  )
and decide exactly what i thought was the best way to go about lengthening it.
how its made will determine the best method of lengthening.
if you would like some input ,post a pic once you get it dis-assembled and i would be glad to give any help i could.

531… You are reading my mind. It must (the modification) look as stock as possible. I already purchased a second swing arm to be used! I hate the fab'ed, welded up look of a different metal on the swing arm.

Also, I will be pestering you for ideas, and stuff once the project gets underway! Wish me luck.
