I'm not sure what high mileage would be on late model bikes. 30,000 miles too much? Its one of those friend of a friend deals for $3000

The mileage wouldn't concern me as much as the maturity of the owner. If it's someone who ensured maintenance was performed on schedule and who rode it responsibly (maybe fast, but not abusive) 30k miles shouldn't be a big deal. But if the owner is someone who thinks burnouts and wheelies is what motorcycling is all about and who believes maintenance is for suckers 1,000 miles is too much. I would meet with the owner and see if I could figure out which camp he belongs to and check out the bike in person. Is the tread burned off the center strip of the back tire or is there fairly uniform wear across the tread, etc.? Ed

I agree with Ed. If it was well maintained it's not bad at all. I know several people that have bikes with 50K Plus miles on their bikes one has a RC51 with over 50K and one has a Mean Streak 1500 that has over 80K but all are well maintained so it all depends on the diligence of the owner in keeping up with routine maintenance.

No, it's not as long as good maintenance was done. I put over 150,000 miles on my 78 KZ650 before I tore into the engine. The only reason I rebuilt the engine was I wanted to install a big bore kit, there was no issues with the engine.

ZRX engine platform is pretty old-school stout. If it was taken care of properly, it isn't even broken in yet. There are guys in the ZRXOA forum that have well over 100,000 miles with just routing maintenance. Ask if it has run on its side or been laid down as oil starvation is the biggest killer.... Also $3000 is a good price, but not a "Deal" unless it is mint. I would try and get him down to $2500-2700 for a deal. Three years ago I got my 99, mint with mods and 12k on the clock for $3100....

I am with Cory on this. The ZRXs are built well and can go over 100k on the clock. I have 47,000 or so on my 2002 ZRX1200R and it is in great shape. That being said, I maintain it and upgrade parts before they fail. One of the most fun bikes especially for the $$.

If you are seriously looking at this one bike. Be sure that it hasn't been down running on its side. They have been know to run perfectly fine after this then 1,000-2,000 miles later have a crank or engine bearing fail. If the bike has a tip over kill switch installed you should be in good to go. They do not come stock but can be added. Again, meet with the owner and see if he is a responsible type that may tell you more than anything else. Oh, and maintenance records wouldn't hurt.

Cory and I are both ZRXOA members. AND Yes, the Rexes can haul in the 1/8 or 1/4.

You will find many opinions on the zrxoa.org but most will tell you 30,000 miles is nothing for these bikes. You just want to be sure regular maintenance has been performed. Also, that oil level is not run too low or the bike has not run on its side. Cylinder walls can score or seize as well as connecting rod bearing can fail as in any high performance engine if those components are starved for oil. Engine rebuilding/replacement or parting-out are the options then. Other than that these bikes just like KZs can be repaired or modded to suit your needs. Great bikes with lots of character and stomp!

I have ridden the ZX14, I call it the "0 to the emergency bike in 2.5 seconds." Wow an incredible machine, smooth, awsome brakes and all that power.
