KZ 550 Anti-Theft ideas? was created by TheDude
I recently bought a Xena x2 disk lock and found out it didn't fit on my 82 kz550.

I'm curious to see what others have/do use(d) and what would fit on this bike?

I want to get an over the brake type of lock.
I have a Kyrptonite one as well, but it's also too big.

Any anti-theft device that relies solely on preventing the front wheel from rolling is easily defeated by anyone other than a casual spur of the moment roll away thief.

Regardless of the underlying surface -- pavement, dirt, sand, whatever -- two guys (one with a shovel under the front wheel) can quickly move the bike away and into a convenient position to lift it onto a trailer or whatever, in a few seconds.

Good Fortune! :)

patton is correct, if they want it bad enough theyll get it. Yet most thieves dont wanna work that hard. Anyway a disk brake lock will help detour and slow down thieves. i personally use a thick bicycle lock thru the front and rear wheel. Make sure if you get a chain that it is rubber coated so it does not scratch anything. i also installed a hidden flip switch under my seat. Yes someone could still figure it out, but at least itll slow them down some or at least make them work for it.

That goes without saying. ;)

Like you said Powerstroke, I just want something visible to let thieves know that they'll have to work a bit harder to take this bike.

I already have a heavy duty chain with a kyrptonite lock, however I'll only be using that when I leave home for a few days.

I want a sturdy disk lock for times when I leave my bike in a shady area for a couple hours.

My brother is a cop. He said that the newer bikes are stolen in 20 seconds at the most.

The new bikes have hollow axles and 4 guys slide a solid rod in the front and in the back axle, lift bike and put in back of truck. 2 guys in the truck pull it forward and they are gone in 15 to 20 seconds.

You could hire Mr.T to stand guard. I pity o foo !! JK

Could look into an alarm system like my Harley has. If you fool with it it'll warn you once if you continue it starts screaming and let's people 2 counties away know something wrong is happening.

 Mr. T

I think I'm just going to go with a front brake lock to shoo away some thieves and maybe later on I'll setup one of these hidden switches or 'completing the circuit' type of finger touch to start the bike. (Sounds like a cool side-project to work on).

But no one really answered the initial question...is anyone using a front brake lock that fits on KZ 550's (stock brake rotors)?
