Any GPz750 Turbo experts? was created by 74ullc
A few weeks back I was looking at local ebay listings and found a listing for a 1985 GPz750 Turbo. Holy crap I fell in love....the more I look at pics of these the more and more I want one!

But I know nothing absolutely about them, besides the fact that owners don't usually call them GPz, but just 750 Turbo. ;)

I found 750turbo.com and have been lurking. But just wondering if anyone here knows anything about this model. If I get serious about searching for one, what should I look for? I really like bikes to be as stock as possible, so that's one thing I would be after.

My concerns are finding parts, turbo maintenance issues....that kinda stuff. The fastest bike I have ridden is my stock '77 KZ1000 LTD so I'm betting I will have a learning curve on just riding it!

Would I be better off looking for a little earlier non-turbo model instead?

I'd say he's the owner and if not,the 750turbo site is his kingdom and most know him as Lorcan and he stops in here time to time and is a wealth of wisdom. I for one would love to have one but they don't turn up near me very often so not a lot to chose from.

performance mods to just keeping it stock. Riding a modded 750 turbo will make you grin from ear to ear ,so will a stock one. my advice is to buy one if you can get it at a good price.

The one that was listed local sold the day that I found the listing. Its gone. Before I found that listing I didn't know that model even existed. I've never seen one in person and more than likely will be buying sight unseen based on their scarcity.

Looks like $3,000-$5,000 is about the going rate for them based on condition. Sound about right?

About that 1980's FI technology....I assume they use a CDI box or something like it? If that box goes bad is it possible to find a replacement? That's the kind of issues I worry about with a bike like that. I'll be braking my own rule of staying with carbs and points if I buy one. I made that rule for myself based on problems I have seen with dated EFI stuff. Seems EFI components do not age well.

But man....for a bike that looks like they do.....whew.....might be worth it.

Don't lurk - come and join us, we don't bite and the guys on 750turbo.com are THE most helpful you could ask for.

The ECU on the bike is in the tail section and is rubber mounted. When these rubbers break the ECU can clatter about and fail, so this is something to watch for on non-runners, but used ones are available and are not overly expensive. You can buy a mint turbo for a few thousand or go for a project at lower initial cost. Keep looking and you will find one, everyone does.

Oh and yes, ride one but be warned. Boost is highly addictive!
