Long distance?
1983 kz750 k1 ltd (twin)
I've got a lot more work to do on it and I have to "officially" get my license - god I hate rules!
i.imgur.com/Wcdqa.jpg - before
i.imgur.com/YNVTlPk.jpg - current
It seems to have a lot of torque, and if I would have been more patient, I would have bought a kz1000 or a kz750 4 cylinder (way more power)
I'm a relatively large person (6'3" - ~230 lbs) and I want to know if it is suitable for the highway.
Also, what kind of modding would YOU do from where it is in the current state?
I want to take the rear fender off and install some strip LED tailight/blinkers on the back. What color? I like black, but I want to turn it into something really eye-turning.
THanks

Salder69:
A 750 twin definitely has enough torque and horsepower for use on the highway.
The big question in my mind is simply whether it'll be comfortable for you during the long distance rides to which you refer. The only way to tell is to take some rides on your bike or a similar bike.
People do Saddle Sore 1000s on Ninja 250s and I know a guy that's ridden a scooter across the country on three separate occasions. His main bike is a Honda ST1300 but occasionally he and a group of his friends ride scooters for long-distance touring. By that standard your KZ 750 should be more than adequate.

6'3" and 270 lbs. and the bike that is my avatar fits me pretty well.
And it will cruise 80 mph all day long. Really comfortable after I flipped the pegs and put superbike bars on it.

Should have enough power and be comfortable enough. The twins are prone to handlebar buzz. You might want some anti-vibe grips.

I met a Canadian dude from Montreal in Salome AZ that was touring the US on a Yamaha 360 Enduro in 1970. I have also seen people touring on bicycles. Heck, if you have the time you can tour on foot, although a horse would be more fun in my opinion.
It's not what you ride, it's the ride.

My brother and I rode motorcycles through Central America in 1997. He rode a 1977 KZ750 twin for 8000+ hard miles on very bad roads. The bike ran great the whole time but the forks and rear shocks leaked out every bit of fluid in about 2500 miles. It was not designed to be ridden on the type of roads we encountered but it was very reliable and started every day.

Diggin' those plates you put over the battery.
I did an LED conversion and I love it. Much brighter at night and much more streamlined look. Just don't forget to get a digital controller
