You may want to adjust the air pressure in the rear tire. Check your owner's manual or the label on the bottom of the seat. They usually call for 2 more pounds of air pressure when riding with passenger. Also, you may want to set the preload a bit stiffer on your shocks so the back end doesn't move around as much. Ed

Preload is the adjustment that controls how tight the springs on your shocks are set. Assuming you have normal shock and not air shocks there should be an adjustment collar on the lower end of the spring (see arrow in first pic). You can see in the pic if that collar was turned clockwise it would move up because the little ramps on the collar would lock in place against the stop that's attached to the shock body. The more you move it up - the greater the preload on the shock spring and the stiffer the rear suspension. You adjust it using a little spanner wrench (should be in tool kit) shown in second pic. Take a look in you manual and you may find reference to this adjustment. Some shocks have a second adjustment on top; if yours are that type, or if they are air shocks, the adjustment should be described in the manual. Ed

Ensure(check) the chain tensioners and axle are tight, as if they are loose, the back end will be hard to control.

You probably ought to install new Progressive springs in the font & new shocks at the rear. You should also check the Fr & Rr wheel bearings, swing arm bearings, & triple tree, to make sure they are rock solid. Also, do any drive shaft checks. A flat tire can cause the bike to sway, so make sure the tires are good.

Most passengers don't understand the risks of motorcycling, so it is your responsibility to make sure the bike is suitable for two-up riding. Just expressing concern for the passenger. Personally, I would never get on the back of a motorcycle.

DBICK666:

I have a low mileage '83 KZ 750 LTD with shaft drive. It has a soft, squishy rear suspension even with preload maxed out and the damper set on its firmest setting. (It's currently in the shop getting Hagon shock/spring assemblies.)

When I asked the group about the rear suspension I was told the original factory components weren't very robust and probably needed to be replaced. It sounds like your components are probably not in any better shape than mine were.

Besides the potential mechanical issues with the bike, it's possible that your passenger is simply moving around a bit too much. If she's leaning too far in one direction or the other it could upset the handling of the bike.

I ask the question: "Is that a loud exhaust or is your motor just labored?" buahuahua.
