I feel your pain, Nebr_Rex. Should have stepped outside first and screamed at the top of you lungs before coming back and posting a reply. I would have told him of the history and how rare it is becoming and all the fine attributes it has in its current form. And that it is worth good money and will appreciate. And I also would have pointed out that he doesn't have to lock it up. Ride the hell out of it is almost bullet proof. You can persuade someone better with honey than vinegar. And who knows, you may have been able to convince him and save the old girl.
Oh, I would also have turned him on to this site to learn more about the bike. Of course, if he would have come here and said anything about cutting her up, he would have gotten a hand full by many a members, LOL.

I didn't see any pictures of it, but I suspect it's already been trashed or that idiot wouldn't be able to afford it ($10-15K if in really nice shape). Ed
Imagine, turning this into a "cafe racer"

I'm against telling someone what they can do with their own property, as long as it has no effect on me and mine. If you don't like to read about it, then don't. Or maybe buy it if it bothers you that much.
But damned if I didn't do the same thing over a supposed KZ750L3 a short while ago
Never Mind

Well, permanently altering an R model gives me the willies also, but in defense of the fellow, the 1983 KZ1000-R2 models aren't as rare as one might think. Additionally, the Euro edition of the R2 is different than the North American edition of the R2 (primarily in steering head angle and exhaust systems) but also in terms of total number marketed. There were 5500 units sold world-wide, 4300 of which were Euro R2's...so what is rare in North America, is considerably less so in Europe. Because of this, the Euro editions do sell for less than the North American editions. I am aware of some European ELR crazies that collect R models and prefer and value the North American editions over the Euro editions.
