Surprised no one has responded from Ont. Here in Florida, motorcycles don't need any kind of insurance as long as there is no lean on the bike. Some riders think that is a great thing. However, that doesn't mean a rider are free and clear of responsibility anytime they are involved in an accident. A rider may still be liable for any property damage if you are found at fault. So no insurance and the rider pays for his or her own pocket book. So it pays to have at least property / liability insurance. Good luck on your search

Ontario? Nobody has good rates, but about the best I found when looking for insurance for my 650 a couple years ago was Jevco. At least they are the main underwriter for vintage bikes in Ontario.

Pretty reasonable rates, I thought, but with the usual: 'first year is frikkin expensive, but second year your premium comes down by half' sorta thing. I also had spotless driving record, motorcycles drivers training course etc...

I was quoted a better rate if I was to bundle the bike into my car/house insurance etc... but most places won't insure a bike that old. Mine is also a '78 and misses the 30 year old cut off by a few years. Now, that being said, I think some places will make an exception for older bikes if you have an appraisal done and go with comprehensive insurance. But personally, I just wanted PLPD in Ontario. Call me a fatalist, but if I get in a massive accident on the thing which is my fault, recovering the cost of my 650 is probably going to be least of my concerns, if I even have a chance to worry about it at all. Plus, realistically you have to think about how long it is going to take to recover the cost of an appraisal compared to just paying a few extra bucks a year for separate motorcycle insurance.

Phew. Sorry, that went a little long. Did i mention somewhere in there that Jevco is probably your best bet in Ontario?

Are you talking Ontario Canada? I use State Farm and have just PLPD(public liability)I do take advantage of multiple car and home insurance with them though, so there is a discount there. For my ELR and my wifes cbr125 I'm paying about $110/month .Is this good?

Wow! I live in rural Indiana and pay $90 per year for my 79 750 twin, and was told it will cost an extra $10 a year to add on a 2000 ZX12. All PLPD.

On another board a guy that lives in Philadelphia said that he bought a used ZRX1200 and the insurance cost him 50% of the purchase price per year, so in two years he would have paid for the bike. He turned right around and sold the ZRX.
