Here in the USA, you only need a heartbeat to get a drivers licence.

I thought someone said it was a funeral??

martin_csr wrote: Well, I'd like to know why the motorcycle riders were stopped? Unless there was some sort of dire need, they sure picked a heckuva place to pull over. It appears they could've at least moved more to the right. You have to assume that the cars behind you don't see you, for whatever reason. On a bright sunny day, brake lights & turn signals can be hard to see, especially the small integrated lights on some sport bikes.

Could have been titled car rearended - but wouldn't have been so exicting

There was an oncoming black truck earlier that was right across the centre line, what's with that?

There didn't seem to be any reason for the car to stop. If there was a reason then the car should have used its hazard lights, that's what there're there for!
The bikes that had stopped, seemed to be off the road far enough.

Saying that the truck looked like it was going too fast for the conditions.

It looks to me like the dark car (Nissan?) stopped because the 2 motorcycles pulled over to the shoulder. I would guess he didn't know what they were going to do (maybe pull back out in front of him?) so he was (or thought he was) playing it cautious and giving them plenty of room. There was nothing else in front of him. The guy in the pickup truck that crashed into him could not see very well because he had his head up his butt and it was very dark in there with no lights. He clearly should be locked up because he was paying zero attention to driving. That Nissan had been stopped plenty long enough for the truck to have seen him; plus the truck appeared to be going way fast for that road.

I must question the judgement of the 2 front bikes stopping where they did unless one of them broke down. Under any other circumstance stopping there shows an error in judgement since there's such a narrow shoulder with very little room between the cars and bikes. All 3 bikes were extremely lucky not to have been hit. Ed

In the video there doesn't seem to be any apparent indication that the oncoming traffic was a funeral procession. Even so, no matter what a particular state's rules are, I for one would not stop the way those motorcyclists did. I would have slowed down instead & proceeded to a safe place to pull over. Cyclist #2 has his foot on the solid white line & is leaning towards traffic. That doesn't seem too bright to me.

Texas traffic laws. Passing a funeral. (from Texas Highway Man).
Across most of the state, especially in rural areas, it is the convention for drivers, out of respect for the deceased, to pull-over and stop while a funeral passes by. I suspect that as a result, many folks think that it is actually the law to do so. In fact, it is not. While many states have laws that require drivers to yield to a funeral procession, Texas has no such law. Funeral processions are always escorted by peace officers, and obviously if they indicate for you to yield, then you must do so. But otherwise, if you're driving down the road and a funeral procession approaches, you are not obligated by the law to pull over.
