Adding Saddlebags to an '82 KZ750 Twin was created by Awjoyce
Hi,
I'm planning on taking a 3-4 day trip in may with my KZ750 CSR, and when I was looking at mounting saddlebags under the seat, it looks like the rear turn signals will be in the way.
Anybody know a good way to store luggage on these bikes? I don't have a backrest or luggage rack, only the short grab bar.
I'm new to this site, so sorry if this is in the wrong section... I just didn't see it fitting in with any of the technical forums.

A simple mount is easy to fabricate and attach to the tag bracket. Will last forever, and also provides a handy place to hook a bungee cord.

When fitting the stock blinkers, I found that the stock turn signal stalks (stems) were difficult to relocate (due to the oval grommet arrangement), so different stalks were fitted -- the simple style that aren't rubber mounted.
These are the stock turn signal stalks:

I don't know the best way to move the turn signals, but one place would be to the tail light bracket - you could drill some holes in the sides. As for the stems, yours probably have removable plastic diamond-shaped inserts. Good alternative stems would be from a KZ400 or Honda CB - some of the Honda stems are similar to the KZ400's.
Or you can fab up a license tag bracket - see reply & photo by patton near the bottom in this topic: Turn signal help
Instead of saddlebags, you could get a tail bag. I have a Cortech Super 2.0, but you could get something larger. Some of the Nelson Rigg tail bags have good plastic hooks for securing them to the bike.

I used throw over bags (see avatar) along with quick detach brackets off a Honda (I think). When I open the bags, the signals get in the way, but other than that they're fine. They sit close to the exhaust, but it's a glass packed MAC 4-2 that doesn't really get hot. Ride for an hour and the pipes by the bags are just warm. Saddleman makes a "tunnel bag" which sits ont he tail that'll set you back about $100, there are also tank bags that might interest you. Harbor freight also sells tail bungie nets for like $3. I def like a sissy bar that I strap a pack too.
