I've not yet had a midlife crisis and would not know a brat from a cafe racer. from what I understand the answer would be "what is a rice burner motorcycle".

I think somewhere there is a rule that says true "brat" bikes must have crappy tires. The ideal set will be Firestones from the 1920 era. After all, they are "gum dipped."

www.bratstyle.com/

is a shop in japan that first made a name for themselves building certain styles of custom bikes typically using yamaha sr250/500 kawasaki w650 and other small displacement bikes as the base for their customs.
they all kinda had the same styling cues.
then americans seen them and liked them, but did not know how to categorize them and just used the shops name as the name of the style.

hope this helps remove some of the confusion of what "bratsyle" actually means.

i am 42.
age doesn't matter, open mindedness is the reason i know what it means.

Well if you replace the handle bars to clubmans on the last 2 and I think they are pretty sweet. The top one is not my thing.. But I agree, break out the hipsters in that form!!!

Down with hipsters! We don't want to promote our sport to any young people. If you don't have a restored 73 Z1 you ain't nothing. Only those and 750 Hondas should be allowed.

I studied the bratstyle website and concluded the term, "brat" is used for custom motorcycle. Their website has everything from dirtbikes to choppers and they call them, "brat" bikes. Now I'm really confused.

Yeah! And get off my lawn, ya kids!!! :woohoo:

Of the three posted, the last two would be fine with decent bars, methinks.

When I was in Japan 8 years ago, those things were everywhere, but not quite as stylized as in those photos. They were a little more simple, with subdued paint schemes. They were so well executed, I thought some manufacturer was making them, but they were various makes and models, and they were loud enough that they didn't seem legal there.

Before some one asks "What is a hipster?" I thought I would provide a chart that describes their evolution (see below). They area a rather strange collection of individuals; not at all normal, young, mature adults like we "oldsters" were in the 1960's and 70's (think Woodstock).
