i was talking to an old boy at work yesterday who has some spare Z1100 engine cases for me left over from his drag bike( stupidly crazy huge fuken turbo thing!!!! im trying to get some picks of it), and he was sayin i should get them walnut shell blasted as it strips the paint and puts a kind of natural lacquer on the alloy to seal it from the world..........

anyone have any history with this?

its fuken cheap too.... head, cam cover and barrels fo $80 bucks

of corse i know if its sealed i wonnt be able to paint it, bu tmaybe ill leave the engine unpainted???

these both look pretty fuken good!

I've used walnut shells in a tumbler to clean brass for ammo reloading before. Worked great. Not sure if it leaves a lacquer on there or not.

just nut oil residue like factories put in floor sweep to minimize dust when sweeping
depending on the freshness of the walnut shells will give you a little sheen if they are real fresh.

Walnut shells make a fine tumbling or blasting media. They do have a natural oil that does get imbedded during the process. I would not recommend the use of walnut shells if you plan to paint afterword. It will be more difficult to ensure a clean surface for best paint adhesion due to the natural oil content. Glass bead or sand blast if you plan on painting.
