NAVA Helmet?

I found a helmet and did some research about the brand NAVA and cant find out much about them. I know Mario Andretti and a handfull of other racers wore them. They were a italian company and in the mid eighties disappeared. I read a article in popular science from 1983 showcasing the visor mechanism (which is on mine) and how the screen closes on its own at fifty miles an hour.

Here are some pics of my treasure, I polished it up and took it apart and washed all the padding and re glued the liner to the foam. Its all sweet and ready to go now.

Helmets have a shelf life, I would get new one. That one does look cool, I would use it as a wall hanger.

I will be, after doing research I found out 5 years is the maximum time span of a helmet. I can't ride for a couple more months as well. I feel this helmet is a good piece of forgotten motor history that I want to know more about and keep around. I would rather not smash it, or my head, into the ground.

I'm not to sure on replacement shields I'm sure there is one on ebay. I'm blown away at the industry status this company upheld for the short while it was in business.

I also found out they were one of the first to use computer controlled manufacturing processes for them.

Holy Moly! I saw the title and had to come in here and take a look! Haven't seen one in years. Had one when I used to ride my GS450S a long time ago. Those helmets were the bug's guts back in the day.

They spoiled me into thinking all full-faced helmets should be that quiet. The only helmet I've ever owned that came close was an Arai, and back in the 80's the Arai was less expensive than the Nava. Hence the move to Arai.

Haha I figured the people who knew them would appreciate me posting it. I was born in 1990 so I never seen one until this one. I was compelled to buy it for some reason even though it smelled like mold haha. After dissembling, washing, polishing and researching I am glad I did. I feel I need to put a Wikipedia page together for it. haha

Well, I know other folks have mentioned this but the shell is probably too brittle now to give you proper protection. I would put it somewhere like on a trophy shelf. I wish I had kept all of my old helmets. Didn't see the need, they were funky smelling and took up a lot of room. But to see the old Bells and Bieffes and Arais and Nolans and God knows what else I've owned would be pretty cool.

I don't intend to wear it, I am looking for a identical new helmet right now as I type, so I can imitate this one haha. If I go to the bike rally here in Seattle I will take it with just to showcase the memorabilia. Its a great looking helmet I think
