'83 kz550 A4 --OR-- '77 kz750 Twin? was created by PtownSLUG
I've always liked the sound of old twins. I wanted a yamaha xs650 for a while but then I fell in love with Kawasaki. I've owned a Honda CB, a Suzuki GS and of course my KZ and there's just something about Kawasaki... anyhow, I digress. I've been keeping my eye open for a seventies kz750 twin, a solid runner with low miles and a good price. Now I have come across just that but in order to get it I would have to sell my current kz550. Now some of my moto friends have expressed that I am making a bad decision, that the kz750 twin is inferior to my 4 banging 550. One went as far as telling me that the 750 twins are prone to problems and that's why they weren't produced for very long. So far I've taken his opinion with a grain of salt since I have yet to read anything to support that.
So I guess what I'd like to ask you guys is what are your thoughts? Any first hand experience, positive or negative on the 750 twin? What about my kz550 four, any opinions on how it stacks up? Some background info- My motorcycle is my only mode of transportation. I commute rain or shine with it. I take it on long trips as well. I'm not a speed demon but I do like to zip around the curves from time to time, just as much as I like cruising at leisurely pace through the back roads as well. On the 750 I'm a fan of it being a twin obviously, spoke wheels, basically the nostalgia of an older bike. On the kz550 I like that it screams when I pull the throttle, I've already put in the effort to make it my own, and it's already proven to me that it's reliable.

Remember, don't work on your bike so much you never ride it.

I'd have to say the 550 would last londer. Ive always been an inline four guy though. Not many v-twins will run longer than a four, unless you ride a boxter gutless BMW

I love twins. I can live with the lower power in trade for the character. Easier maintenance too.

A 750 twin will run forever, wish I hadn't traded mine away and I've never heard of anyone having serious problems with them. The only common problem with them was the starter clutch going
