Sell my GPZ750 and get a YZF-600 Thundercat?

I purchased a barely running 1982 GPZ750 with ceased brakes for cheap and have partially restored it. It now is runs well, has tires with tread, and looks good except for old paint and rust on the exhaust. The GPZ rides OK (great for a 30 year old bike), has perfect ergos, and great style. The Thundercat rides great (great for a 10 year old bike) has decent ergos, and totally lacks style. What are your thoughts? Would selling the GPZ be stupid?

The answer depends on what your expectations are for a motorcycle. The YZF is a very light, 100+hp, very high revving fairly modern sportbike that frankly looks to me like all the other fairly modern sportbikes. If you plan to race your friends it would be a better choice than the GpZ. If on the other hand you want a bike that stands out from the rest of the crowd even though it will not beat them in a race, the GpZ might be a better choice. It may need some work to bring it up to a level that you are proud to call your own, but when you're done it will be your bike and you will know it inside out. Also, it will be easier to work on than the YZF.

I always get a thrill from going on model specific forums and asking them if I should sell one of those models.

The GPz750 is a pile of junk, give it to me and buy the thundercat.

this bothers me
is there really a question?
i own a gpz 750
and the only thing i use it for
is to drag a yzf-600 blundercat around with a chain
some times the sparks make me laugh
just before the yzf goes up in flames

I'm not being antagonistic, I'm just looking to see if anyone has any insight that I haven't thought of. I miss the performance but not vibes of my old FZ6 truth be told, and after selling my GPZ750 and GS500 (both were $500 project bikes), will have about $2.5 - $3k to spend on a non-project. Or I could drop the GS500 money into fully repainting and restoring the GPZ.

I agree with this comment. I've got a gpz750 project and a yzf-r1 and I wouldn't sell either of them.

I'm with 893cv and Tony get the YZF600 and keep both. But if your near southern California and just want to dump the GPZ I'll take it (LOL).

My knee-jerk reaction would be to keep the GPz750, but get another bike that meets your riding needs. Remember, it is easy to pour money into a restoration (I have more money in parts to restore than I do on the initial purchase price...and I'm not near done) and in the case of the KZ750R1, you'll never get what you have in it when you sell. Should you choose to retain the GPz750, the restoration better be a labor of love, as the model just doesn't sell for large dollars. The resale on the 1982 model is (and never has been) not very high. In my case, I don't care, as I think it is one of the coolest 750's ever released.
