I'd contact the state motor vehicle department where it's going to and see what they say. Some states are having motorcycles meet emission standards, others, not so much.

Good place to start, maybe

Maybe disassemble it and import it as used parts?

Sounds like an interesting adventure

All Canadian motorcycles that are legit come with a valid ownership from the Department of Transportation that the owner must provide when transfering ownership to you, along with a bill of sale, also required by the Ministry here when transfering ownership in Canada is a vehicle search that the Ministry can do for you for a small fee to see if there is any money owing on vehicle. Other than that, you have to arrange for a local shipping company to ship it to you, or if you are close enough, you can come and get it, and when you cross border, you deal with American Customs.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

I've done this a few time, but none more recent than 5 years ago.

Several things.
  • If you bring the bike across the border, make sure you visit the customs booth and pay any import duty on the bike - keep the receipt. You will need this to be able to register the bike in many states.
  • You will need a bill of sale.
  • You will need the paperwork on the bike.
  • The customs poeple WILL run both the engine and frame numbers against a data base of stolen vehicles.
