Back when i was around 16 speed vision would show old racing footage of anything fast. I used to sit and watch whatever was on especially old ama races and old drag racing. Kinda always thought the old racers were way cooler than the modern stuff. watched mad max allot and finally fed my addiction. What started you?

Had the old "kerker kicks ass" posters on my wall, of some chick bending over a gpz. My cousin had a 900 he would let me ride on back, damn that thing was scary, Mad Max didnt help, just always thought they had the nicest lines of any bike in its time, and a alot after its time.

Ahhhh great question! I still remember the day.. My first street bike was a Yamaha XS400 Twin, I was 15.. I was riding it home from school one day and drove by this house and there she was!! KZ650SR!! For sale... I knew right then I had to have it, drove home, got all the cash I had ($100 bucks) from mowing lawns all summer, drove back and ask the guy if I could make payments. It was for sale for $600 and he reluctantly agreed. Sold the 400 for $400 bucks, and took me a month to get the other $100... I have been a Kawboy ever since!!! Thats the bike that I posted a pick of in the "What hooked you" thread...

I can't beat Ramtough's story, but just always been a Kawasaki man. The first motorcycle I ever rode was a '74 Z1A- my Dad took me for a short ride when I was like 10, I still remember him yelling at me not to burn my right leg on the RC Engineering pipe when I got off the bike.
The first bike I owned was an LTD550, that took me on a trip through the Arctic Circle, check out the link in my signature. Saw a steal of a deal on a KZ900 (my daily driver- I ride every day) about a year and a half ago. This weekend I'll be picking up my first Z1, a Z1B. Already have quite a plan for it!
I really didn't know there were other motorcycles besides Kawasakis!

While riding my decent running CB750, had my butt handed to me by a riding buddy on his brand new Z1.
So I immediately bought a new Z1 for my own. :woohoo:
We rode them together side-by-side in a 1973 Christmas parade.
Good Fortune!

I was 15-16yrs old. And all the hard core Harley guys had sportsters and triumps they beat on.
Then the Z1 came out. This broke that, ring, ding, rattle trap, stereo type H2 curse. They painted them Black put a 4 into 1 Denco or Hooker pipe on them. Lowered the back shocks. Did 3-4 house lenght burnouts!
I said I have to have one! I had my first Z when I was 18 in 1978

Back in 83 or 84 I was on my Yamaha XS 650 riding with some guys. We were just coming off an off ramp on our way home so we decided to open them up. I THOUGHT I was riding hard when 2 or 3 of the guys on 900s went buy me like I was sitting still!! That's when I said I've got too get one of those. A short time later one of the guys told me where a nice 76 KZ900 was for sale. I bought it and have had it ever since. Don't get to ride it much anymore but took it on about 2-3 hour ride to Charlotte with some guys the other month and it ran like a dream!

My story is probably the boringest ever, but I just simply wanted a good looking sensible do it all motorcycle and in 1978 there really wasn't anything better than a KZ650 for the price. I would have rather got a Z1R, but small tank ect take away the do it all, then the KZ650 was like $1900 and the KZ1000 was around $2800. The 650 is a more fun bike for every day riding and commuting as I still own both, so made a good choice in 1978. I was only 17 and riding around 15,000 miles a year on 2 stroke Yamaha enduros at that point and my dad had a 2000 mile 74 RD350 Yamaha he never liked, so we dumped off both bikes trade in on the new KZ650 in 1978 and it's been a good ride since on KZs.
