I heard they released the Z1R in Germany with a an old style 4 into 4 and the larger tank that would appear on the black 1980 D3 model.
I have also seen tiny pics of a 1979 Z1R in red... the bike had the MKII engine and they put a 19 inch front wheel on it. It had a 2 into 2... I heard it was also called the Z1RII
Anyone know more about these "Lost" Z's? I wonder if any still exist.

My understanding is that those mods were done to boost sales for the Z1R (they didn't sell well in Europe either). I also have heard that an astonishing 11 KZ1000-S models were sold...if any are still in existence, surely they would be in collector's hands.
As for 1979 Z1Rs, there were 300 D2 units produced and they all went to Europe...where you can actually find a 1979 Z1R...still. I believe a member or two of KZR has one.

The Z1R with 4into4 exhast was only sold here in Germany, called Z1000S but only 11 were sold, then Kawasaki stopped the selling because the exhaust made vibrations and the brake fluid was foaming in the rear master cylinder.
