OK, so my new-to-me '83 1100LTD has 4-into-1 exhaust, and individual K&N type air cleaners - are these primarily cosmetic add-ons, or do they really improve performance over OEM parts - and if so, any best guesses as to how MUCH improvement over stock?

The pipe would add a few ponies, and there is huge debate on the Pods. If there is a performance gain, is it worth the trouble tuning, etc. Those CV carbs, with the Pods will show there weakness on a windy day. get a side wind across the road and try to get it to pull a corner or hill.
Do a search on them, Pods, just make sure you have an extinguisher handy for when your computer melts down.
If you ride on nice days, then they can be tuned to run, some get them pretty good, they say.
A lot easier with a VM mechanical slide, but the other problems still exist.

Off subject: you have a nice spot there in John Day, I just rode through there last month. CO, to Bend, then Seattle, and back. Pipe yes no Pods.
