Bloody knuckles and broken glass was created by Pontiacdude210
I was coming home from work today, and got a lesson in "dirty intersections". The intersection had some loose gravel and it was raining, and when I accelerated the back end kicked out. Before I realized fully what happened, the back tire caught traction again and the bike lurched really hard. I slid backward and gripped the handlebar harder, inadvertently opening the throttle all the way. The last thing I saw before road was the front tire almost above my head. I hit the pavement before the bike and got out of the way. As soon as I could I ran over to the bike and stood it up. Of course laying on its side in the dirt it was still running perfectly and leaking nothing while I was standing there with blood dripping down my hand. I stood it up and drove it the 1/8 mile to a friend's house. The damage to the bike was just a broken speedometer lens and a scratched up crashbar, and the plastic peice behind the indicator lights cracked. I got bloody knuckes from where I landed and a very sore knee, but the pads in my riding coat prevented me from taking too moch damage from the skid. I have to remember to be on top of my game when I am riding. I was really lucky and so was my bike. I just thnk God that I am all right and that the bike is OK too. P.S. If anyone has a speedometer they want to sell, let me know!

It's a 1980 KZ550. Thinkin about converting the speedo to an older one that goes past 85 though. Not that going past 85 is a good idea when you screw up at 10 lol.

If you want to, you could fix your broken speedo. It takes a little bit of time to do it neatly, but you can pry up the metal ring that goeas around the speedo. The speedo splits in half, top section is just the glass, the bottom section is the mechanism. There are many benefits to keeping your original speedo.
