Hey I have a chance to buy a 1977 kawasaki kz 1000 z1r with very low miles and all original. I believe its the light blue color. I offered him $5000 for it, is that the going price or too much. I believe its in very good to xcellent shape and has less than 10,000 miles on it.

If it is, as you say, in excellent condition, then that price is likely to be fair. It needs to be complete and actually running, with a clear title. Without any pictures or any other documentation of the condition it would be hard to judge. Don't fall for the old "carburetors need cleaning and needs a battery to run" routine. At $5K it needs to be tight. How much experience with Z1R's do you have? There are a lot of model specific parts to a Z1R and you need to be able to recognize them for proper evaluation. All I'm saying is don't jump in with both feet. Do your research so you don't take a $5000 bath.

1977? Be careful; I thought the Z1R was introduced in 1978 (KZ1000-D1). Are you sure it's not "homegrown?" Ed

Could be looking at the neck tag and seeing a late 1977 build date for a 1978 model motorcycle. BUT, that's part of the reason I suggested that he do his research. To my knowledge, there was no Z1-R until 1978. I sure would hate to get home with the bike to find out it's a Frankenstein.

Have a look and see if it has got the original cable operated front brake master cylinder ,if it has it is a fair chance that it is the real thing .If it doe's not have it that does not mean it is not the real thig it just means some one has changed the master cylinder set up at some stage
