Looking for a cover and some kind of lock was created by OregonMatt
I need a cover and some kind of lock for my bike. Thought I would turn to you guys for advice. Any suggestions as to what brand cover, or what type of lock to get? Thanks in advance

Regarding the lock - if you can get your hands on one like mine you can lock up the back of the bike so it cannot roll, then use the fork lock to lock the front fork at an angle and someone would need to pick up the entire bike to steal it. The lock I use is a cast stainless steel Sargent & Greenleaf that uses a Medeco key (teeth are angle cut to resist picking) and it has a removable hasp. I remove the hasp, slip it through the rear disk brake carrier, and attach the lock. That puppy ain't goin' anywhere without a key, so keep a spare available.

All I know is the fork lock does no good. My cousin locked his forks and the stupid key would not fit for some reason. We just forced the bars and broke the lock. Few years later I go to buy this junk KZ650B for parts and the guy says it can't be moved because the forks are locked and no keys. 10 seconds later it was "unlocked". I'll be damned is all he could say.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The fork lock isn't the strongest, it is a deterrent and hopefully the thought of making more noise breaking it when stealing something will make an amateur thief just move on to the one that isn't locked.

You could use a cable lock, several brands out there like Krypton, etc. Disc locks are great I guess but sooner or later you will forget about it even after the reminder has "reminded" you!

As for a cover, just about any of the ones today are good as the next, I use a Nelson-Rigg sometimes when I go for overnight trips and it does well.

If you get a lock for your disc brake get a good one. I got a cheap one off ebay and forgot it was on. When I pushed the bike back it broke and fell off. I didnt even notice it breaking until it hit the ground.

My Rotor isn't drilled, so I am not sure a disc lock will work. I don't have a fork lock that I am aware, so that's not an issue. I was thinking of a cable lock, or a good pad lock on the chain

My rotor isn't drilled either. If you get a beefy lock with a removable hasp you can slip it through the carrier portion of the rotor (see pic). IMO, a cable or chain gives the thief too much room to work. This way becomes damn near impossible for the thief to get a saw or bolt cutters on the lock. They would have to remove the rear wheel, remove the rotor, and re-install the rear wheel before moving the bike (or lift up the whole bike). By the time they did all that you would wake up from their cussing and they fumbled around in the dark.
