I know, it's not a kaw. I know, it's a V-twin. Well, it was my since passed cousin's old bike. My uncle wants me to buy it and give it a good home. It's in great shape, just needs to be cleaned up, change fluids and maybe new tires. I think theres about 15k on the clock.

What do you guys think its worth? KBB says 2500 retail, 1500 trade in, but no private party list price...

As with most any pre-owned bike:

How long sitting unused?
Possible $$ needs:
Tires, chain, sprockets, oil/filter, carb work, routine services (including checking and adjusting valve clearances, fork oil, etc.), fuel tank rust, and on and on.

Best case scenario, would be a low mileage bike that hasn't been stored very long and been regularly ridden and serviced by a knowledgeable and meticulous owner.

Could check ebay for comparative sales.

Honda makes some excellent bikes, and if you like it and would be proud to ride it, I'd go for it. :cheer:

Imo, the Honda Shadow 1100 looks similar to a Harley Sportster, but the Honda is far more civilized.

Good Fortune! :)

hehe, and rides nicer too!

shaft drive. Wouldn't need major work, just fluid changes. Probabaly does not have valves done. I'd guess about 15k miles. Its been sitting since...say, 2006, but its been used here and there every year or so, so not 100% sitting, just not used regularly.

Replied by RetroRiceRocketRider on topic New addition to family-95 Honda Shadow 1100-worth?
In the early 90's my brother let me ride his bike (the other version of that bike, the V65 Magna), and it was what bit me and got me back into ridng again after almost a 10 year hiatus.
Smooth and comfortable, and goobs of torquey power. I would roll into the parking lot at work in 1st gear and nail the throttle, instant wheelie. If I nailed the throttle fast enough, it'd break the rear tire loose howling! :woohoo:
I borrowed that bike for a few weeks and logged about 2K on it. If I could snag one now for a fair price (no more than $1,800), I'd go for it.

Sorry 4R,

The Shadows are NOTHING like the V-65 Magna and the V-45 Sabre. The Magna lives on today as a 750. It's as HOT as they come! The earlier Hilda V-4's suffered from a lack of lubrication to one of the cams and were a real bitch to work on.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but the Shadows are just that: Shadows of any Hardly Ableson.

Their front ends like to dive into slow speed corners and their exhaust systems sound like scooters. I'm not just spouting here I've worked on and refurbished 600's, 750's and 1100's. They're all the same, a water cooled, shaft driven Hardly Ableson imitations.

On the plus side they're dependable, tractable and light.

One good thing, the 95 came with a five speed. I've got an 1100 1990 here in my shop that the current owner will have to just about give away because of the four speed transmission.

IMHO

I'd have to say it's an imitation...yes.

BUT, It has the cobra pipes, so it actually sounds pretty loud...not scooter like at all. For a Vtwin, I think it's pretty peppy. It is a 4 speed... I have no issues at all at highways speeds (got it to 105 no problems at all), but sometimes downshifting can be tricky...seems to be geared all.

It rides like a caddy compared to my KZ's and the wife likes to ride it. The forward controls are very nice too. I've only put 100 miles or so on it, but so far absolutely love it. However, when I feel like lighting my hair on fire and taking on twisties, I'll leave the Shadow and wife at home and take my KZ's.
