2 years it took me to get this done. The biggest issue was waiting to find a clean LH factory mid panel ! Finally found a brand new on off ebay a few months ago ! I aquired my profect from the original owner (who I want to school with). The bike was lightly crashed not once, but twice ! :(
I bought the bike, a ton of used spare parts, and about $1K worth of OEM replacement parts ! Lots of mid 80's satin black powdercoated parts. Bike is showroom stock and shines ! Enjoy !

Cool bike!

Is that the one they call the "Slingshot" that people transplant the 1100 motor into?
I've read about them, but I've never seen pics of one.

Wow that is one clean GSXR! B) Beautiful. I love the early slabsided gsxr, in fact I picked up three (and a half) of these in the past two weeks. Mine are butt ugly & neglected but one's a runner and it will be on the road soon!

Steell, the slingshots were the second gen ('88) model, this is the early 86-87 "slabby" (came out in '85 in Canada/Europe). What you are talking about is commonly referred to as a 7/11 and is not limited to a certain year/model.

Yup, correct "slingshot" GSXR's are 88 and 89 I believe ? The "slingshot" is a very well breathing head with aggresive cams and hi performance carbs too, so all the guys want to bolt on the "slingshot" type parts on to their earlier 750's .

7/11's are a nickname for guys that yank out the 750 engines and replace them with the 1100 engine. Basically a direct bolt-in swap with only slight and easy mods required.

Killer job on the old oil cooled gsx-r. I am a big fan of the oil cooled 86-92 gsx-r's. And you are correct 88-89 gsxr 750 it what they called the slingshot the trick was to put the 88-89 750 cylinder head with the 750 cams on the 1127 bottom end.

I was asking because I saw a 89 GSXR750 with the 1100 motor advertised on the Muncie Craigslist for ~$1400, but there were not any pics in the ad.

The ad is gone, but I just saw an ad on the Indy Craigslist for a 77 KZ1000 with less than 3k miles and a Kerker that looked new for $2500 and the seller is the original owner.

Bikes coming out of the woodwork since the weather is warming up.

Still an outstanding bike you have Polar_Bus.

I've wanted a 1st gen GSXR ever since I saw the first one on the dealer floor back in '86. I was racing motocross ('85 RM125), so I was getting some parts at my local dealer, and as I walked through the showroom there it was, and '86 red/black GSX-R1100....... it was calling to me back then.....I just didn't have the hefty $6.5K to buy ! But I said "one day i'll have one of those" :)

Kinda the same way I fell in love the first time my neighbor bough over his brand new '83 GPz1100 ... LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT !

Nice GSXR sir, a job well done. Ya dont see many in that condition, usualy they are very tatty or street fighters.

A good friend of mine had an 86 GSXR 1100, I was riding a CB400F at the time....That 1100 was a pure hooligan bike, it made all the right noises and wast fast as @$#% someday I'll find me one too.

A similar experience at a dealership back in 1984 propted me to find a GPz900R, which I have recently aquired. Quite the feeling to own one all these years later...Nostalgia has that effect :)
