Andy,it's been many years since I ran RS carbs but the clacking noise of the slides I remember very well. Back in the day Orient Express, and maybe others,sold metal slides to replace the oem Mikuni units which got rid of the noise iirc. They were actually developed because dragbike guys were breaking the plastic/bakelite stock slides running nitrous.

How did it ride with the struts? My back is hurting still just thinking about it. Could not get away with this on the road in Cali these days. The freeways are falling apart, city streets are no better.
