Thanks for the post. I broke my only key in the tank lock to my 95 Police1000 yesterday and this info was very useful. A local locksmith was able to help make a new one and it was a whopping fifteen bucks. As luck would have it I was able to get the broken piece out without causing damage.

I sent a message to the OP (rstnick) regarding getting some keys made up for my 1980 Kawasaki 750 LTD. Does anyone know if he is still around and can still do this? If not, can someone else point me in the right direction? Thanks all.

Hey Rob,

Got the key today that you made for me...it works perfectly! Thanks so much...I was stuck with only a very poor copy that hardly worked as my only key. Awesome work!

i had to have a locksmith cut me a new key this past weekend by code since the original key i was using was all fucked up by the last owner and it couldnt even be put in the clamp to be manually cut. it looked like they beat the damn thing up with a chisel. it costed me 20 bucks to have it done.

Wow, that's a cool idea. I'll definitely have to try that sometime.

I've had a couple of basket case bikes that came with no keys.
Took the tumbler apart and ebay searched the whatever numbers I found.
I've found keys for everything I looked for. Last one as an 81 yam xs850.
6.00 to my door, FWIW, you might try that if you know the key #
I read somewhere they only made so many different combo's
