I found a old Penton in the weeds and it is posted on the Penton site.

A gentleman by the name of Bud Green called.

He is interested in the bike and we were talking bikes and mid Ohio.

He use to race for John Penton. He did the six days and 500 milers. He also raced Daytona when they raced on the beach.

The man is 75 years old and I would say cudos to Bud.

Pretty diverse racing carear there, cudos to Bud indeed.

That KHK is wicked, and anyone brave enough to ride wearing a LEATHER helmet must have been tough as nails :)

Awesome post Roy. And I must say, "Penton in the Weeds" should be a book title (you heard it hear first).

Bud's riding all kinds of stuff in those pics, with and w/o front brakes.

ETA: Googling around for "Bud Green Penton" yields some interesting stuff. Here's the Dec. 1960 edition detailing Bud being beaten out by John Penton in the Ohio Enduro (170 miles). Mud city! books.google.com/books?id=p_oDAAAAMBAJ&p...een%20Penton&f=false

I never knew much about Pentons except they have a huge following at the swap meet in Ohio.

You learn a lot of intersting information just by digging a little.

I didn't know that John Penton was the person that started the Alpine clothing line. It started when he went to a boot maker in Italy to have some race boots made.

He later sold the clothing line to Malcolm Smith of on any sunday fame.

Thanks for the link.Roy

For some neat stuff, Google "Jack Pine Enduro" "Penton"

I like the serial numbers on the Pentons. They are easy to read and understand.

My bike first three digits are 111 so you know it was built in November of 1971. How easy is that?

Bud had just bought a Jack Pine bike in Missouri so I guess he is trying to kill two birds with one stone. Roy
