What he should do is: Go back to the shop, get his bike, and then sell it as a project. If the shop didn't do any work you don't owe them any money.

In my opinion, I would say no. There are to many variables and you only hear one side of the story. You may want to post this question in the "about the site" forum and see where it goes from there.

Might be better to go the other direction and just start a list of "trusted shops." Seems like it would accomplish the same thing

I suspect a list of shops to avoid would eventually include every shop on the planet. I say this because no matter how great a shop is they have at least 1 dissatified customer who would give them a "thumbs down." A list of good shops, with specific examples of how they provided outstanding support, might be more fair and more useful to KZR members. Ed

Exactly! I don't know if you guys have ever been to the CarTalk website but they have a great section called The Mechanic Files. Lots of good information for people who are moving to a new area, broken down in a strange place, or are just unsure of what is available locally.
Especially for people with vehicles that are generally hard to find mechanics for (For example, 30 year old Japanese motorcycles) I think it would be great to have a running list of "If you are here you can look for this guy" type things.

I'll start =)

The only place I've ever been, and I haven't been there in 3 years because I left the state:

Baltimore Cycle Salvage, Baltimore, MD

The owner is a knowledgable guy who will give you a fair price and the warehouse is full of old Japanese odds-and-ends.
